Knowing when to Pivot

Dave and I have personally been building a new business for the past two years. To say that it has been challenging would be a massive understatement. We have at times felt completely out of our realm —and, honestly, stuck for nearly a year. But I heard this quote, and it shifted my perspective: “The best time for learning is when you don’t know what’s happening. If you know what’s happening, there is nothing to learn.”
When everything is laid out and stays in your lane, you’re not growing—you’re just repeating. There’s no thrill, no curiosity, nothing pushing you forward. But step into the unknown? That’s where the magic happens. Your instincts kick in, your creativity ignites, and suddenly, new possibilities emerge—leading you straight to the pivot you never saw coming!
Pivoting isn’t about giving up on your vision—it’s about shaping it to fit reality. The startup world is always shifting, and the ones that thrive are those willing to recognize when it’s time to adjust and move with purpose. A pivot is a sign of resilience, creativity, and the drive to keep pushing forward. In this industry, adaptability isn’t optional—it’s everything.
Not knowing can feel unsettling—it’s messy, unpredictable, and pushes you right up against your own limits. It’s like being handed a pile of puzzle pieces with no picture on the box. At first, it’s frustrating. Nothing seems to fit. But as you start turning the pieces, making connections, and trusting your instincts, patterns emerge. And suddenly, what once felt impossible starts taking shape into something even better than you imagined.
Success doesn’t follow a straight path; it’s a winding road full of surprises, challenges, and ever-changing customer needs. The times I’ve felt most inspired, most alive, are the times I’ve had no clue what I was doing. Maybe life isn’t about getting to a place where you know everything, where everything is neat and certain and under control. Maybe it’s about staying in that place of not knowing, of learning, of discovery. So, here’s to not knowing. Here’s to being a little lost, a little unsure, and a little out of your depth. Because in those moments, when nothing makes sense, you might just learn something that changes everything!
